Teaching & Learning
Year 5 and 6 Teacher Network
Overview
This Year 5 and 6 network will bring together teachers and teaching assistants to explore effective teaching and learning in upper KS2, with a clear focus on raising achievement for all pupils. Through discussion, shared practice and professional reflection, participants will strengthen pedagogy, develop curriculum expertise and refine approaches to assessment, intervention and progression. The network will also consider effective preparation for end of key stage 2 assessments, including strategies to support pupils’ confidence, knowledge and retention. Each session will support colleagues to improve classroom practice and contribute to stronger outcomes in Years 5 and 6.
Our Aims
- Strengthen pedagogy in Years 5 and 6 through the sharing of effective classroom practice, adaptive teaching approaches and strategies that support pupils to secure and apply key knowledge and skills
- Deepen curriculum expertise by exploring progression across upper KS2, ensuring that teaching builds towards end of key stage 2 expectations in reading, mathematics and grammar, punctuation and spelling
- Develop effective approaches to assessment, intervention and SATs preparation so that teachers and teaching assistants can identify gaps, raise achievement and improve pupil confidence and attainment
- Build leadership expertise by enabling colleagues to evaluate practice, support improvement across Years 5 and 6 and strengthen pupils’ readiness for transition to secondary school
