Student Leadership
“Active Citizens for Life – Creating a Better Future”
At Advance Learning Partnership, we believe that developing student leadership is essential to our mission of raising aspirations, unlocking potential, and securing the best possible outcomes for all. We recognise that student leadership plays a vital role in shaping confident, compassionate, and capable individuals who are ready to lead in their schools, communities, and future workplaces.
Why Student Leadership Matters to Us
We are committed to nurturing Active Citizens for Life — young people who think critically, act responsibly, and care deeply about the world around them. Leadership is not just about titles or roles; it is about initiative, influence, and integrity. Whether a student is leading a school event, supporting a peer, campaigning for change, or finding their voice in the classroom, we value and celebrate every expression of leadership.
Across our Trust, the belief that “Your Child is Our Child” means we work together to create inclusive environments where every learner has the opportunity to lead, contribute, and thrive. Student leadership supports personal development, enhances school culture, and builds key life skills that will serve our students well into adulthood.
The Skills We Want Our Students to Develop
Through our Student Leadership Programme, we support students to develop:
- Teamwork – collaborating effectively with others to achieve shared goals
- Communication – expressing ideas clearly and listening with empathy
- Resilience – embracing challenge and learning from setbacks
- Confidence – believing in their ability to make a difference
- Creativity – thinking innovatively to solve problems and inspire change
- Responsibility – understanding their impact and acting with integrity
These skills are central not only to leadership but to lifelong success in education, employment, and civic life.
Opportunities We Provide to Develop Leadership
We offer meaningful leadership opportunities for students from primary through to secondary. These include:
- Participating in School Councils and Pupil Voice forums
- Leading or supporting Social Action and Environmental Projects
- Engaging in Peer Mentoring and Wellbeing Ambassador roles
- Contributing to the Arts, Sports, and House Systems
- Taking part in nationally recognised schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Young Leaders Award, and volunteering programmes
Through our Student Leadership Programme, we aim to develop a generation of proactive, thoughtful, and engaged young people. These future leaders will be equipped not only to succeed in their own lives, but to contribute meaningfully to society — creating stronger communities and a brighter future for all.
ALP Student Leadership Programme
Starting this year, a new Trust-wide Student Leadership programme is being trialled in a selection of our primary and secondary schools. Students will have the opportunity to work towards our tiered Bronze, Silver, and Gold Student Leadership Awards, gaining recognition for their contributions both in and out of school. The programme is designed to be inclusive, flexible, and reflective of each school’s unique context — enabling all learners to find and grow their leadership potential.
