What does it mean to be an ECT at ALP?

Overview

This training supports Year 1 Early Career Teachers as they begin their professional journey within Advance Learning Partnership. The session will explore what it means to be an ECT at ALP, including the expectations, opportunities and support available across the Trust. Participants will reflect on professional identity, effective classroom practice and the importance of building positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and mentors. The training will also help ECTs understand how ALP’s shared values, evidence-informed approaches and commitment to professional growth can support them to develop confidence, resilience and a strong foundation for a successful teaching career.

Our Aims

· Develop ECTs’ understanding of what it means to begin their teaching career within Advance Learning Partnership, including the values, expectations and professional culture that shape our schools.

· Support ECTs to build confidence in establishing effective classroom routines, positive relationships and inclusive learning environments for pupils across primary and secondary settings.

· Explore how evidence-informed practice, reflection and professional dialogue can strengthen teaching, learning and early career development.

· Help ECTs understand the support available through mentors, school leaders, colleagues and the wider ALP Institute professional learning offer.

· Encourage ECTs to develop a strong professional identity, resilience and a sense of belonging within the Trust.

Val Rayner
Deputy Headteacher at Hummersknott Academy

Val Rayner is a trainer and coach and has spent over thirty years in education.  Val started her career as an English teacher and then progressed to Head of Dept.  before becoming the LA Advisor for English in Darlington and later Deputy Headteacher at Hummersknott Academy leading on teaching and learning.     In 2006 she set up her own company, Growing Influence, delivering training and coaching to leaders at all levels both within education, the NHS, armed forces and private business.  She is a qualified coach and has Train the Trainer accreditation.
