Microsoft Office Specialist 365 (Excel) Expert

Overview

The Microsoft Office Specialist Excel Expert certification develops advanced digital skills and practical confidence in using Excel to analyse, manage, and present complex data. The programme focuses on expert-level competencies, including advanced formulas, PivotTables and PivotCharts, data modelling, and professional spreadsheet creation. Learners gain hands-on experience with real-world tasks such as automation with macros, scenario analysis, and advanced data management, ensuring they can work accurately and efficiently in educational and professional settings. The online platform provides 150 hours of instruction and practice to prepare learners for the Excel Expert assessment, ensuring strong readiness for certification success.

Delivered in partnership with Bishop Auckland College Group. Once enrolled onto the course you will be assigned a designated tutor and a weekly drop in session to ask any questions or access any support.

This course is fully funded for residents of the North East Combined Authority (NECA) area, which includes: County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and Sunderland.

Assessment: One 50 minute online examination, to be undertaken at Bishop Auckland College. The exam date will be agreed upon minute online examination, to be undertaken at Bishop Auckland College. The assessment schedule will be agreed at enrolment to ensure it fits individual availability.

Our Aims

• Equip staff with a strong advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel, including complex functions, data analysis techniques, workbook and worksheet management, and the ability to select appropriate Excel tools and features for different tasks and workflows within an educational environment.

• Build confidence and competence in practical Excel use, enabling learners to create advanced formulas, use data validation, apply conditional formatting, develop PivotTables and PivotCharts, and use Excel to improve accuracy, insight, and efficiency in their day-to-day roles.

• Promote responsible, efficient, and secure digital practice, ensuring participants understand good data management, workbook protection, version control, and the appropriate handling of sensitive information in professional and educational settings.

• Empower staff to innovate within their workplace, using Excel to streamline administrative and reporting processes, enhance data-driven decision-making, improve the quality and consistency of datasets, and increase organisation and impact across a wide range of school roles.
