Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Cyber Security (8 week programme)
Overview
The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Cyber Security builds essential digital knowledge and practical confidence in understanding how to protect digital systems, data, and information from cyber threats. The programme focuses on core cyber security principles, including common types of cyber-crime, threats and vulnerabilities, legal and ethical considerations, methods of protecting devices and networks, and the importance of safe online behaviours. Learners gain practical understanding through real-world scenarios such as recognising security risks, applying protective measures, managing data securely, and responding appropriately to potential cyber incidents, ensuring they can work safely and responsibly in educational and professional settings. The course provides 110 guided learning hours, supporting learners to develop industry-relevant knowledge and prepare for successful completion of this nationally recognised qualification.
This course is fully funded for residents of the North East Combined Authority (NECA) area, which includes: County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and Sunderland.

Our Aims
Equip staff with essential cyber security knowledge, including understanding common cyber threats, risks and vulnerabilities, legal and ethical responsibilities, and the principles of protecting devices, networks, and data within professional and educational environments.
· Build confidence and competence in cyber awareness, enabling learners to recognise security risks, apply safe online behaviours, identify potential cyber incidents, and understand how to reduce threats through good practice, password management, data protection, and secure system use in day-to-day roles.
· Promote responsible, safe, and secure digital practice, ensuring participants understand the importance of safeguarding information, protecting personal and organisational data, complying with data protection requirements, and maintaining cyber resilience across digital systems.
· Empower staff to contribute to a secure workplace culture, using their knowledge to support colleagues, follow organisational policies, reduce human risk factors, and strengthen overall digital safety and resilience across a wide range of school roles.
