Level 2 Certificate in Information, Advice and Guidance
Overview
The Level 2 Information, Advice and Guidance qualification develops essential knowledge and confidence in supporting individuals to access appropriate information, make informed decisions, and navigate careers and progression opportunities effectively. The programme covers key principles of information, advice and guidance practice, including effective communication and interaction skills, delivering guidance in practice, supporting groups, managing information, and understanding signposting and referral.
This course is delivered through a flexible online learning model over 12 weeks, allowing learners to enrol at any time. You will be supported by a dedicated lecturer, with portfolio-based assessment across five units leading to a nationally recognised qualification.

Cost: This course is funded for residents of the North East Combined Authority (NECA) area, which includes: County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and Sunderland.
Our Aims
- Equip staff with essential information, advice and guidance (IAG) knowledge, including understanding key principles of effective guidance practice, communication and interaction skills, impartiality, safeguarding considerations, and the legislation, policies, and professional standards that underpin careers and progression support.
- Build confidence and competence in delivering effective guidance and support, enabling participants to recognise individual needs, provide appropriate information, support progression and careers conversations, and help children make informed decisions about education, training, and employment pathways.
- Promote consistent, high-quality careers and progression practice, ensuring staff understand the importance of providing accurate and impartial information, supporting aspiration and employability, working collaboratively with colleagues and external services, and contributing to a culture of informed progression across educational settings.
- Empower staff to play an active role in supporting children’s progression, using their knowledge to enhance careers-related conversations, strengthen signposting and referral to specialist services, support transitions between education and employment, and contribute to a whole-school approach to careers education and guidance.
