Generative AI Foundations
Overview
The Generative AI Foundations certification provides learners with essential knowledge and practical skills to effectively navigate today’s AI driven‑driven world. The course covers fundamental generative AI methodologies, core differences between generative and traditional AI, and practical techniques for producing outputs and selecting the right tools. Learners also develop prompt engineering and refinement skills, gaining confidence in crafting effective prompts for text, image, and video generation. The program emphasises responsible and ethical AI use, addressing biases, intellectual property, and data privacy. This foundation prepares individuals to apply generative AI confidently across academic and professional settings.
This course is fully funded for residents of the North East Combined Authority (NECA) area, which includes: County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and Sunderland.
Assessment: One 50‑minute online examination, to be undertaken at Bishop Auckland College. The assessment schedule will be agreed at enrolment to ensure it fits individual availability.
Our Aims
- Equip staff with a strong foundational understanding of generative AI, including key methodologies, the differences between generative and traditional AI, and the ability to select appropriate AI tools for different tasks.
- Build confidence and competence in practical AI use, enabling learners to craft effective prompts, refine outputs, and apply generative AI tools to improve accuracy, productivity, and creativity in their roles.
- Promote responsible, ethical, and safe AI practice, ensuring participants understand issues such as bias, intellectual property, and data privacy as they integrate AI into everyday professional activity.
- Empower professionals to innovate within their workplace, using generative AI to streamline tasks, enhance decision-making, and discover new opportunities for efficiency and impact.
