Teaching & Learning

ALP Classroom HITs (High Impact Teaching Strategies)

Overview

Designed to develop deep, practical expertise in high-impact teaching strategies that can be applied across all phases, subjects, and contexts. Rooted in evidence-informed practice, the course takes a step-by-step approach, ensuring that strategies are not only understood in theory but also modelled in an authentic classroom context.

Engaging with the intricacies of effective teaching, you will explore not just what works, but why it works, when to use it, and how to adapt it to meet the needs of diverse learners. Through carefully sequenced sessions, you will build confidence in selecting, combining, and refining strategies to maximise learning for all children, including those with additional needs and those who require greater challenge.

Central to the programme is the development of a strong, flexible teaching repertoire of strategies, grounded in research and refined through deliberate practice, reflection, and collaboration. By focusing on precision, responsiveness, and impact, this course supports teachers to move beyond isolated techniques towards expert, adaptive teaching.

Our Aims

  • Strengthen pedagogical decision-making, using informed judgement to respond to the needs of children in real time.
  • Focus consistently on the learning of all children, ensuring inclusive practice that supports progress for every learner.
  • Refine and embed strategies to support the model for ‘Great Teaching’ from Evidence Based Education enabling sustained improvements in teaching quality and pupil outcomes.
