Mathematics

Our Vision for Mathematics

At the heart of our Trust’s vision is a commitment to ensuring every child is equipped with the mathematical knowledge and skills they need to thrive at the next stage of their journey. Mathematics is a fundamental life skill, delivered via coherent and ambitious curriculums throughout our Primary and Secondary schools. By fostering a culture of high expectations, mathematical curiosity and resilience, we aim to develop confident, competent mathematicians across all phases of education.

Trust Priorities

Our key priorities are outlined below:

  • Narrow attainment gaps through high-quality, evidence-informed pedagogy.
  • Embed reasoning, fluency, and problem-solving at the core of mathematical learning.
  • Ensure progression and continuity of learning in the transition from Primary to Secondary.
  • Equip all pupils with the skills to access future education and employment with confidence.

Professional Development

We are proud to offer high-quality professional development for all teaching staff across the Trust. From Early Career Teachers to experienced subject leaders, we provide a range of opportunities to deepen subject knowledge, refine pedagogical approaches, and share best practice. This includes:

  • Secondary Subject Leader Development: Ongoing training and networking for secondary Maths leads, focusing on curriculum leadership, assessment, and driving whole-school improvement in mathematics. (Mathematics training & events)
  • Cross-Phase Aspiring Leaders of Maths: A dedicated development programme supporting teachers with the potential to take on curriculum leadership roles, fostering a shared understanding of effective practice across Key Stages 1–4 (including transition into KS5).
  • Archimedes Maths Hub: Through our partnership, staff have access to a full catalogue of professional learning opportunities, including nationally recognised Work Groups, Teaching for Mastery programmes, and Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM) courses.(Archimedes NE Maths Hub)

Our approach ensures that staff are supported to continually improve their practice, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and reflective professional learning.

NCETM Maths Hub Partnership

We work closely with our local Archimedes Maths Hub, forming a strategic partnership that enhances our capacity to deliver excellence in maths education. A variety of staff both participate and lead Maths Hub Work Groups, aiming to embed mastery pedagogy across classrooms at all phases, ensuring our Trust remains at the forefront of innovation and best practice in mathematics teaching.
